Βlue Flag 2025: Crete Tops the National List for Best Beaches in Greece!

The Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF), the national operator of the international Blue Flag programme in Greece, has announced this year’s awards for beaches, marinas and sustainable tourism boats. With 623 beaches awarded, Greece retains its 2nd place globally, among 52 participating countries.

The trend is clearly upward, with the number of Greek award-winning sites growing every year. Once again, Greece surpasses 600 Blue Flags, holding 15% of all Blue Flag beaches worldwide.

And for 2025, the Region of Crete holds the top national spot with 153 beaches. The International Jury has awarded 4,302 beaches, 736 marinas and 158 boats around the globe.

Within Crete:

  • Lassithi leads with 51 awarded beaches

  • Chania follows with 43

  • Heraklion has 36

  • Rethymno features 23
