To celebrate World Bicycle Day on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Municipality of Rethymno invites locals and visitors to join a special bike tour through the city’s monuments.

Meeting Point: Delfini Building, 23 Sofokli Venizelou Street
Time: Gathering at 17:00, ride starts at 17:30
Duration: Approximately one hour

This initiative is part of a collaboration between the Tourism Department and the Planning Department of the Municipality. It supports Rethymno’s broader goals for sustainable mobility, promotion of cultural heritage, and enhancing the visitor experience.

A limited number of electric bikes will be available for the tour, upon reservation by Monday, June 2, at 12:00 p.m.

The event also marks the pilot launch of the city’s new automated public e-bike sharing system.

The Municipality of Rethymno is putting the final touches on the new system, implemented under the NSRF 2014–2020, which includes 44 electric bicycles stationed across key locations in the city. The pilot phase aims to optimize services and ease integration into daily life for both residents and visitors.

Each user, after a simple registration process, can rent an e-bike for up to three (3) hours per day. The system is designed for easy access, sustainability, and to promote alternative mobility.

With Bike Day and the launch of the e-bike sharing program, Rethymno is taking another step towards becoming a greener, more accessible, and culturally vibrant city.
