On Wednesday, 29 July 2026, the Agios Nikolaos Mountaineering Club is organising a circular evening hike in the Katharo Plateau area to enjoy the Full Moon.
Our route begins just before the settlement. The aim is to climb the two peaks on the north-eastern side of the plateau, which offer uninterrupted views across the entire Mirabello Bay. At dusk, we follow an old footpath winding through large kermes oak trees, reaching the Anefalakkoi peak just before sunset. ("Anefalo" means "cloud" in the local dialect.)
From an altitude of 1,512 metres, we enjoy the spectacular views, the impressive sunset and the magical moonrise. Depending on the group's wishes, we may also climb the neighbouring Platia Korfi peak at an altitude of 1,500 metres.
We return to the starting point along an old footpath illuminated by the light of the moon.
Please note: Bring a torch and a windproof jacket.
Departure: From Agios Nikolaos, 24 Karamanli Street (Vasilopoulos supermarket parking), at 17:30 on Wednesday.
Hike leader: Leonidas Klontzas (Tel. +30 694 478 7507)
Information: Giannis Pagkalos (+30 28410 28173, during shop opening hours)
Hiking duration: 2.5 hours (excluding necessary stops)
