AEGEAN announced that it had reached a new all-time high in July, carrying 2,011,000 passengers in a single month for the first time in its history.
According to the airline's announcement, this new milestone was achieved in a particularly challenging environment for the aviation industry. Geopolitical developments in the Middle East continue to affect the airline's ability to fully serve its network in the region, while aviation fuel costs have remained particularly high over the past five months.
Passenger growth in July was evenly balanced between the domestic and international networks, with a year-on-year increase of 5.3% in both. Specifically, 886,000 passengers travelled on the domestic network, which includes 66 routes serving 32 destinations, while 1,125,000 passengers travelled on the international network, comprising 154 routes to 108 destinations across 43 countries.
For the third consecutive year, the expansion of direct connections from Thessaloniki, Heraklion and Rhodes to smaller domestic destinations has made a significant contribution to meeting the seasonal travel needs of both Greek passengers and visitors to the country.
In total, 38 routes are offered to 24 destinations outside Athens, significantly reducing travel times between regional destinations. This initiative helps spread the benefits of quality growth across more regions of Greece, strengthening the potential of smaller destinations.
AEGEAN's Deputy CEO, Michalis Kouveliotis, stated:
"We would like to thank our passengers for choosing us and placing their trust in us, as well as the entire AEGEAN team for their daily efforts and dedication. Our momentum continues, with the delivery of seven additional new A321neo aircraft during 2026, despite the increased costs caused by geopolitical conditions and air traffic restrictions across Europe, particularly in Greece.
Our growth is being driven primarily by larger aircraft and more seats per flight, supporting our productivity while fully recognising the operational constraints, particularly at our main hub in Athens.
It is worth noting that, through the increased use of the new, larger A321neo aircraft, we achieved a 4% increase in passengers travelling to and from Athens in July, with just a 1% increase in the corresponding flight movements.
At the same time, we significantly strengthened direct connections between destinations, including within Greece, by introducing many more flights, aiming to support and expand the travel options available to our passengers."
AEGEAN continues to distribute its flight schedule across a wider range of hours throughout the day, wherever operationally feasible, reducing the concentration of flights during peak periods.
The airline is also systematically investing in its operational resilience, deploying more reserve aircraft and crews this year than ever before.
The milestone of 2 million passengers in July confirms AEGEAN's strong momentum and its continued commitment to responsible growth, strengthening Greece's connectivity while constantly adapting to the increasing challenges facing the aviation industry.
