Adventure & Action

The Palaiochora Runners Association “Palaiochora Trail Running Team” invites you on Sunday, 29/03/2026, to the 8th mountain running race “Krokodilos Trail.”

It is a particularly technical and demanding mountain race, taking place on rocky trails with constant ascents and descents, designed exclusively for experienced and well-trained athletes.
The race distance is 20.5 km, with 1,200 metres of positive and negative elevation gain.

It is a point-to-point race, starting from Sougia and finishing in Palaiochora.

The name “Krokodilos Trail” comes both from the shape of the cape located east of Palaiochora in Chania, which resembles a giant stone crocodile swimming, and from a symbolic meaning: the profile of the route features four very sharp “teeth,” similar to those of the animal. The name also reflects the terrain of the route, which hides many sharp stones, like teeth.

The “Crocodile” of Palaiochora is completely still and tame, waiting for visitors to the area to discover its beauty.

The race unfolds in South-West Crete, along the route:

Sougia – Ancient Lissos – Lichnou Lakkos – Ammoutsaki Beach – Yaliskari Beach (up to this point following the international E4 path connecting Sougia with Palaiochora) – Anydroi Gorge – Prophet Elias of Anydroi – Papouri – Keratides – Mylos – Vigles – Palaiochora.
