To mark World Tourism Day, the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos is hosting the 6th Cretan Street Food Festival – a celebration of Cretan gastronomy, wine, and local products, taking place on Friday, 26 September 2025 in Agios Nikolaos.
This annual event has become a landmark for highlighting the local identity and supporting our agri-food heritage.
This year’s theme is:
"Cretan cuisine through modern recipes"
The event is dedicated to the memory of Spyros Kokotos, a visionary figure in Greek tourism whose creativity and work left a lasting mark on the country’s high-quality hospitality.
Participants may include:
• Hotels and restaurants from the area
• Wineries, local producers, and cheesemakers
• Local cultural associations and schools
A new and exciting addition this year is the
Gastronomy Contest for Young Chefs, Schools, Cultural Associations and Women’s Clubs
with the theme: “Flavours of Mirabello”
The competition invites young chefs, students, associations, and schools to creatively express themselves using the ingredients of their land.
Organised in collaboration with the Agri-food Partnership of the Region of Crete and the Chefs Club of Crete.
The winning recipes will form the basis of a series of signature dishes from Mirabello, which can then be featured in local restaurants – proudly bearing the name of their creator.
Participants can register either for the main event or the contest,
present their flavours and products,
share the story behind them,
and actively contribute to promoting gastronomic tourism in the region.
