As part of the celebration of Crete as the European Region of Gastronomy 2026, the Messara Associations Network will organise the 17th Cretan Cuisine Tasting in the picturesque traditional village of Apoïni, with the support of the Region of Crete.

The event will take place on Thursday, 30 July 2026.

The Messara Associations Network organises one of the region’s most important gastronomy and cultural events, hosted in a different village each year. The village selected to host the tasting receives the Cretan Cuisine Tasting Cup from the previous host village.

This year, Apoïni, in the Municipality of Gortyna, has the honour of hosting the 17th Cretan Cuisine Tasting, warmly welcoming visitors, associations, producers and friends of the Cretan tradition from across Crete.

Through authentic recipes, local products, talks, music, and the participation of associations from across Messara, we showcase the rich gastronomy of our region and honour the flavours, memories and people who keep the Cretan tradition alive.

Gastronomy is the best way to bring people together, exchange cultural experiences and share unique moments.

Gastronomy is also the strongest vehicle for social cohesion, economic development, and the promotion of our cultural identity. When local associations, producers and organisations work together towards a common goal, the benefits multiply and spread throughout the community.
