The Cultural Association of Prinias “Rizinia” is organising the 1st Prinias Gastronomy Festival, which will take place on Sunday, 7 June 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in Prinias, Municipality of Gortyna, under the auspices of the Region of Crete and the Municipality of Gortyna.

This special cultural and gastronomic event is dedicated to the history, tradition and culture of Crete, with a central focus on showcasing the timeless journey of Cretan gastronomy, from the Minoan era to contemporary Cretan cuisine.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore thematic sections dedicated to:

Minoan Gastronomy
Traditional Cretan Cuisine
Monastic Cuisine with the theme
“From Sinai to Mount Athos and the Monasteries of Crete”
Local products, wine, olive oil and raki
The tradition, music and culture of Crete

The event will bring together representatives of the Church and monastic communities of Crete, acclaimed chefs and gastronomy professionals, producers and organisations from the Cretan agri-food sector, cultural and local associations, as well as friends of Prinias from Greece and abroad.

The cultural programme of the event will be accompanied by live traditional music, along with the participation of traditional dance groups.

The festival aspires to become a new institution of culture and gastronomy for the region of Gortyna and for Crete as a whole, highlighting the island’s authentic hospitality, culinary heritage and rich cultural identity.

Admission for the public will be free.
