The Holy Monastery of Chrysoskalitissa is a 17^th century Orthodox monastery situated at the southwestern tip of the Kissamos municipality, overlooking the serene Libyan Sea. Perched at an altitude of 35 metres, it is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. The origins of the sacred pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary of Chrysoskalitissa are shrouded in mystery, with tradition suggesting that it began with the discovery of an icon depicting the Assumption of the Virgin Mary within a rock niche. According to accounts, a local farmer witnessed a night-time vision of a candle flame in that very spot, leading to the icon's unearthing. It is believed that the icon was concealed during the iconoclastic period (726-842 AD).

The venerable Chrysoskalitissa Monastery has endured the tumultuous history of Crete, weathering countless wars and conquests. This magnificent edifice, constructed centuries ago, proudly stands tall, overlooking the sea. Its distinctive presence easily catches the eye of passers-by. A relatively undiscovered yet truly enchanting beach is Aspri Limni (White Lake), located near the historic Monastery of Chrysoskalitissa in the Chania region of Crete.

Aspri Limni is a small, unspoiled beach with no amenities. It features white sand and is encircled by rocks, forming a natural barrier around a protected lagoon. Despite the fact that thousands of tourists visit the nearby Elafonisi, the beauty of Aspri Limni remains relatively undiscovered and off the beaten path.

The Forestry Department often guides visitors to this beach, primarily due to the presence of the protected Cretan date palm colony, which adds significant environmental value to the area.
