The Towers of Kourmoulis in Kouses: Witnesses of History
ABOUT
Kouses is now a small village within the municipality of Mires.
It offers a panoramic view to all its visitors, and its history is particularly intriguing.
During the Turkish occupation, it served as a fief for the prominent Kourmoulis family, who were crypto-Christians.
In Kouses, two Kourmoulis towers are still preserved, featuring battlements. Inside one of these towers lies the church (catacomb) of Agia Pelagia, where crypto-Christians would gather in secret to worship Christ.
