Malevizi Archaeological collection

The Archaeological Collection of Malevizi is housed in a special room in the Municipal Hall of Malevizi, in Gazi.

The collection, which was sponsored by the Municipality of Malevizi, was inaugurated in 2011 and is under the auspices the Ministry of Culture and the Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities. It boasts a great number of archaeological finds from all periods of Cretan history. The visitor can marvel at the 500 artefacts displayed in approximately 40 showcases. The majority of the exhibits come from the Metaxas collection, which was owned and maintained by the businessman Nikolaos Metaxas from 1959 to 1997. There are also thirty more artefacts, unearthed in excavations in the wider area of the Municipality.

The archaeological collection is divided into seven sections and the exhibits are listed chronologically.
