Korfes: An Oak Monument and Thermal Springs
ABOUT
Nestled amidst the peaks of the eastern slopes of Mt Psiloritis, the village acquired its name, Korfes (meaning peaks), due to its geographical setting.
The village appears to have been split into two sections - the old and the new - centred around its square, where the renowned Mantinada Festival is held, revolving around the two churches situated there.
East of the village lies an artesian well, where water rises to a metre above the ground, emitting a sulphuric odour. This sulphurous spring water is renowned for its healing properties.
An oak tree, known as ‘Drygias (or Driyas) tou Mantaleni’, stands below Kefalas Hill, situated 200 metres from the settlement.
