Evdomos Plateau

Other Natural Places

ABOUT

Just 3 kilometres southeast of the village of Gonies, at an altitude of 780 metres, lies the Evdomos Plateau.

According to the Municipality of Malevizi, the name “Evdomos” is believed to be a variation of “Evosmos”, inspired by the many flowers that grow here. The plateau is used as grazing land by shepherds from Psiloritis and is typically covered with low vegetation. Access to Evdomos is via the village of Gonies, following the road that passes by the restored windmill.

Evdomos is divided into two smaller plateaus: Kato Lakko and Pano Lakko. In Kato Lakko, visitors will find a small mountaineering shelter (formerly a shepherd’s mitato), as well as a spring beneath an ancient tree.

Locals say that the plateau was once filled with pear trees, which were eventually abandoned and gradually disappeared. Today, only a few wild pear trees remain scattered across the area. At the spot known as Kakarida, there were once many partridges, which is how the location got its name.
