1. Vai – Europe’s Only Natural Palm Forest
At Cape Sidero, on the northern tip of Sitia, lies Europe’s only natural palm forest of Phoenix theophrasti. The lush greenery opens onto a dreamy beach with crystal-clear waters. A tropical escape that blends wild nature with laid-back seaside vibes.
2. Toplou Monastery
Built in the 15th century, this historic monastery is a landmark of both religious and cultural significance. It also hosts a small but distinct winery and a museum worth exploring.
3. Zakros Natural History Museum
This museum showcases the geological and ecological identity of the area and serves as a gateway to the Sitia UNESCO Global Geopark.
4. Tourloti

5. Kazarma Fortress
This 13th-century Venetian fortress, whose name comes from “Casa di Arma” (guardhouse), has been beautifully restored and now hosts concerts and theatre performances.
6. Richtis Gorge
The trail starts from the village of Exo Mouliana and leads down to Richtis beach. Along the way, you’ll pass plane trees, aromatic herbs, old stone bridges and, of course, the impressive Richtis waterfall.

Dramatic and atmospheric, this gorge is both a natural wonder and an archaeological site, connected to the Minoan Palace of Zakros. It’s part of the Sitia Geopark and one of the region’s most memorable walks.
