Department of Sociology, University of Crete
The Department of Sociology commenced operations during the academic year 1987-1988.
The Department curriculum aims to provide students with a solid theoretical and methodological foundation in understanding social structure, social interaction, and social institutions. The curriculum is designed to equip students with theoretical knowledge in sociology and to enable them to apply empirical research methods. Special emphasis is placed on fostering independent and reflective sociological thinking for scientifically analysing social phenomena. Additionally, the curriculum focuses on cultivating students' ability to reflect critically on the impact of their actions on social reality.
