With Thrapsano's rich pottery tradition at its heart, the 5th International Ceramics Festival "Earth Water Fire" opens its doors today, Thursday 2 July, at 20:00, with the opening ceremony taking place in the village's central square.
The event will run until 5 July 2026, offering four days dedicated to the art of ceramics through a programme that includes talks, film screenings, workshops, educational activities, pottery demonstrations, and many more events for visitors of all ages.
The festival aims to highlight the traditional art of ceramics, connect it with contemporary creative practice, and promote Thrapsano as a place with a long history and an important cultural heritage in pottery making.
The festival is organised by the Thrapsano Cultural Association, the British School at Athens, the Centre for the Study of Modern Pottery, and PLOIGOS Educational & Development Organisation, with the participation of the European Route of Ceramics.
The event is co-organised by the Region of Crete and held under the support and patronage of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage, and the Municipality of Minoa Pediada, with the participation of the Potters of Thrapsano.
