On the occasion of the unveiling of the funerary monument of Viannitis Ioannis Kondylakis, the first president of ESIEA, the Municipality of Viannos has delivered a fully designed and functional space, creating a distinctive route of cultural and natural interest.
The new route stretches south of the Town Hall, reaching the Holy Church of Agios Konstantinos and Eleni, and includes stone paving along the entire length of the existing road, as well as a complete redesign of the surrounding area of the small, historic church.
A defining feature of the project is the presence of the centuries-old olive trees of the area, highlighted as monuments of nature. At the same time, the night-time lighting of the route—autonomous through the use of solar-powered fixtures—creates a particularly atmospheric setting.

This is a project symbolically connected to the literary work of Ioannis Kondylakis, such as “O Patouchas” and “I Proti Agapi”, adding a distinct cultural dimension to the route.
On the occasion of the delivery of this route, Pavlos Baritakis, Mayor of Viannos, stated:
“The completion of the route marks the goal of the Municipal Authority for it to become a reference point for our area.
A project whose implementation would not have been possible without the contribution of the owners of the monumental olive trees, the Directorate of Technical Services and its staff, the Deputy Mayors, the President of the Ano Vianno Community, the previous Municipal Authority, the former Members of Parliament Sokratis Vardakis and Nikos Igoumenidis, and of course the Region of Crete for funding the project, with a budget of €370,000.
With respect for our history and cultural heritage, we honour Ioannis Kondylakis while at the same time creating a modern and aesthetically upgraded space for residents and visitors alike.”
