For the fourth consecutive year, the light of the August moon will illuminate the traditional settlement of Vathypetro, which will host the unique “Epilinia 2026”, a celebration dedicated to Cretan wine, wine tasting and culture.

On Sunday, 23 August, 2026 the atmospheric setting of Vathypetro will once again become a meeting point for winemakers, wine lovers and everyone looking to enjoy a rich experience of flavours, music and art, with the participation of the Wines of Crete network.

Vathypetro, located approximately 4 kilometres south of Ano Archanes, is home to the oldest wine press ever discovered, evidence of the area’s centuries-old tradition of viticulture and winemaking dating back to Minoan times.

15 wineries – Food & Wine Pairing with Cretan products

At the heart of the event, 15 selected Cretan wineries will present labels that capture the character and dynamism of the Cretan vineyard. Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in wine-tasting events, accompanied by a special food & wine pairing featuring selected Cretan products and delicacies, chosen to bring out the distinctive “notes” of each wine.

A musical journey under the moonlight

The evening will be accompanied by the voice of Chara Asiminaki, who will perform new arrangements of timeless Greek songs. Familiar melodies will take on a new life through the saxophone of Michalis Lambrakis, the percussion of Paul Monasti and the keyboards of Tasos Karakoukas.

The venue will also host two art exhibitions: a painting exhibition by the MOTIVO school and a mosaic exhibition by artist Soula Rasidaki, offering visitors another experience of art and aesthetics.

The “Epilinia” are more than simply a celebration. They are evolving into an institution that embraces Crete’s past and present through wine, tradition, the arts and scientific knowledge. It is an experience that grows richer every year and leaves a lasting impression on those who attend.

The “Epilinia” are organised by the Vathypetro Cultural and Beautification Association. Founded in 2002, its aim is to highlight the distinctive cultural, archaeological and historical identity of the settlement of Vathypetro through events and activities held on an ongoing basis.

The event is co-organised by the Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia, the Region of Crete and the Wines of Crete network.
