The Municipality of Platanias, as a co-organiser of the 9th Crete Marathon (dedicated to the memory of the late Metropolitan of Kissamos & Selinos, Irineos Galanakis), in cooperation with the Runners’ Health Association, the Regional Unit of Chania, the Municipalities of Chania Prefecture, and other institutions, will host the “Ceremony of the Cutting of the Olive Wreath from the Monumental Olive Tree of Vouves” on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 18:00.

The ceremony will take place in collaboration with the Athletic Dance Association “Oi Pelasgoi”, whose members, following the ancient ritual, will cut a branch from the Ancient Olive Tree. This branch will then be handed over to the Organising Committee by the Mayor of Platanias, Mr. Giannis Malandrakis.
